Swimming Australia head coach Leigh Nugent says he was not aware of any use of prescription drugs or of major behaviour problems in the Olympic team.
The independent Bluestone Review released on Tuesday slammed a "toxic" culture in Australia's swimming team at the 2012 London Olympics which saw athletes abuse prescription drugs, alcohol and curfews.The report, commissioned by Swimming Australia following Australia's worst Olympic swimming performance in 20 years, found incidents of peer intimidation and hazing went unaddressed by coaches and alienated the lower profile swimmers, who felt the emphasis on gold medal success caused anxiety in the camp.Read the story: Review slams 'toxic' culture in Olympic swim teamBut Nugent says he was never aware of behavioural problems in the camp, or of the use of prescription drugs like Stilnox.He says a lot goes on within an Olympic squad and says a number of measures need to be taken to avoid similar incidents in Rio.
